His
position set apart on a top of a hill makes Carpeneto a
very calm place but at the same time easily reacheable
both from the Alessandria-Acqui road than from
Alexandria-Ovada road.
Carpeneto (920 inhabitants) is a worthful example of
medieval little town. It is sourrounded by sweet
hills covered by vineyards (where they grow the famous
'Dolcetto di Ovada' wine), his weather is sweet, his air
clean, his people friendly. |

Carpeneto,
medieval bourg gained his name from the carpani woods
which once covered all the hills of this region. We know
that here there was a castrum (castle) in roman times
called Castrum Carpani which was an important military
site and a station of rest on the Via AEmilia (Emilia
street). Other important cities of that times were Aquae
Statielle (now, Acqui Terme) and Derthona (now,
Tortona).
At the present days the bourg has an evident medieval
conformation, his streets are narrow and an imponent
castle lies on the higher spot of his hill.
Natable is the wiches festival which take place every
year. |
